The First Act Of Worship

The first act of genuine worship is when one receives Jesus as Lord and Savior. That is the moment one becomes aware that he needs Jesus and all that Jesus is; the moment he becomes aware that he needs Jesus* work and influence; the moment he becomes aware that Jesus* work and influence are worth having. He may not have the words to express these things and he also becomes aware that Jesus is and must be Lord AND Savior. This knowledge goes beyond our vocabulary. If Jesus was not Lord He could not save. If He was not Savior he would not save.

ONLY after receiving Jesus into our hearts (spirits) are we able to worship God sincerely and honestly (in truth).

John 4:23-24: But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Ephesians 3:17a: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; . . .

Psalms 51:10: Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Without the changing and enabling work of Christ upon our hearts we cannot worship God in truth. Before we receive Jesus our spirits are dead to God, under the control of our flesh and alive unto sin. After we receive Jesus our spirits are made alive unto God and dead unto sin through the Holy Spirit. God then begins to control our spirits and empower them to control our bodies (flesh).

Romans 6:11: Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

No one worships God in any way, shape or fashion without Jesus.

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
